Info

this is a 1971 17' mako. it is an excellent project boat for someone wanting to restore a classic. i did some major work in 2016 on this but never got to making it pretty. i have pictures of the work being completed and can offer more details if needed. i removed the console and cut out the main portion of the dash with the helm on it. there were too many holes to work around and didn't want to just put a piece of starboard in there. i re-cored it with plywood and fiberglassed it. so you will see the fairing compound as a green color. inside the console, i added a glassed in plywood panel to attache electrical work to. i tore out the deck with the main purpose of raising it to make it self bailing. it was a mess in there. a leaking gas tank and foam filled with water. after removing about 400 pounds of soaked foam and pressure treated stringers, that weren't sealed, i got down to the bare hull. i reinforced that with 1708 and epoxy. glassed in new stringers. put in a new at the time 33 gallon tank. new deck about 1.5" higher and glassed that also in epoxy and 1708. everything is solid although in full disclosure, there is a soft spot near the front of the console, but if you are rebuilding this, it will not be a tough repair. i removed the fish boxes in the rear corners which gives a great amount of room, but i still have them if you want to glass them back in. i also have the original bow rail. again, i can give more details if needed, but once functional, it sat more than two inches higher in the water. i used it too much to keep it out and make it pretty. it was highly functional. taking it back into 1 foot of water and out to 10 miles in the ocean. the engine runs if you want it, but it developed a shifting issue. i meant to repower it, but have decied just to move up to a bigger boat. i can remove the engine if you just want the boat. trailer included. send me questions if you got them. again, this is a classic hull and would be a great rebuild project.
